Love This! Debunking Exercise Myths

I absolutely love this diagram because it reveals the truth behind the top ten exercise myths. For many years, I believed that the cardio machine revealed the accurate amount of calories I burned. But if you really think about it, how can a machine truly tell the amount calories burned  with only your age and weight? The three components that determine calories burned are frequency of the workout, the duration of the workout session, and the level of effort put into the workout. (Side note: One thing my exercise nutrition teacher taught us, is that the level of effort put into the workout can be determined through the talking test. If you are able to sing a song or hold a conversation while working out, you can label it as low-moderate intensity. High intensity workout is when you unable to talk due to the extensive breathing). These three components contribute to the amount of calories that are burned through physical activity each week. Therefore, it makes sense that a machine cannot determine the accurate amount, only estimates.

If you are not seeing results within your workout regimen, check to see if you fall victim to these myths. Changing your behavior and becoming educated in the truth can help you become closer to achieving your health goals.
